Today, some of the most iconic jewelry items in the world of fashion are creations made by Cartier.
Their jewelry design collections such as the Love by Cartier and Trinity by Cartier have become so popular that even replicas are flying off the shelves. Continue reading to learn more about Cartier’s most precious jewelry collections and how they uphold value in today’s luxury jewelry market.
The Cartier Panthere Collection
Cartier first saw George Bierber’s painting of a woman holding an extra long necklace while a panther sat at her feet back in 1913. They took this as inspiration towards their new campaigning strategy for their signature collection, Panthere. Not long after this, Cartier was recognized worldwide as the House of the Cartier Panthere, marking this painting their symbol.
This symbol was further reinforced when Jeanne Toussaint joined the Cartier Team nicknamed “La Panthere”. Toussaint designed bags, accessories, and more items for Cartier. She was taken upon as a team designer because of her cleverness and unique taste for fashion. Always wearing a full-length panther coat, Toussaint’s nickname of ”La Panthere” was omnipresent in her craft.
In 1948, Cartier created their first 3D piece in the Cartier Panthere collection as a special order for the Duke of York’s wife, Wallis Simpson. The Duke took a precious 116.74 carat Emerald from his own collection for the design of this cat-shaped bracelet. The following year, the Duke requested yet another diamond-encrusted Panthere style piece, this time with a brooch with sapphire.
Upon seeing these pieces worn by such royalty, consumers began to demand Cartier make these pieces available for the public. Wasn’t long before Cartier established an ever-loved collection of the Cartier Panthere. The collection featured panther shaped rings and bracelets covered in diamonds, onyx, emeralds, and other precious gems. Today, the Panthere ring continues to be one of the most desired Cartier pieces around the world.
The Cartier Trinity Collection
In 1924, Cartier introduced a line of jewelry that not only looked beautiful, but meant something beautiful as well. French poet, Jean Cocteau, requested Cartier design him a ‘trinity’ of bands, each ring a different color gold.
These rings were presented to the public as a representation for the three stages of an intimate relationship. The white gold band stood for friendship, yellow gold stood for fidelity, and rose gold stood for true love. When observed, one notices that the three rings are intertwined showing the connection between the three meanings.
Since its release, Cartier has created several variations of this collection featuring pave diamonds eternity bands. The collection is recognized worldwide as a timeless creation that is only growing in popularity. It’s no surprise why the demand on this collection has increased tremendously.
The Cartier Love Collection
Nowadays, it’s hard to find a fashion influencer who doesn’t own a piece from Cartier’s love collection. Introduced in 1969, Cartier worked together with Aldo Cipullo who designed this collection with the idea of creating something that represents an everlasting love.
The idea of the Chastity belt inspired Cipullo to create the iconic Love Bracelet. This bracelet applied with a gold screw driver was initially only sold by Cartier to couples. One partner was to wear the bracelet white the other held onto the screwdriver, giving only them the ability to safely apply and remove the piece. This exclusivity only granted the demand for the Love bracelet to skyrocket, now making it one of the most staple pieces of jewelry in the entire world.
Through the years, Cartier has released several variations of the Love Bracelet featuring different kinds of precious metals and holding different diamond carat weights. However, these special edition Love bracelets never straggle too far from Cipullo’s original design.
As we mentioned in the beginning of this article, the Love bracelet is one of the most replicated pieces in the Cartier collection. In response to the growing counterfeit Love bracelets being made, Cartier began to engrave a unique serial number into each piece. They keep records of these serial numbers in their database. Aside from the new serial number feature, another good way to spot a fake Love bracelet from an authentic one is by testing its material and comparing hallmarks.
